Astronomical Diaries

VOL I, II, III  2015 - 2019

Architectural Graphic Standards 4th Edition

Recycled architectural diagrams provide a foundation for discovery of the universe through texture, symbols and archetypes. Playfully exploring cosmic themes, the human figure, and the rich diversity of living things, this body of work is a serenade to the beauty and mystery of creation.  A joyful chronicle of space and time without beginning, middle, or end.

Nana TCHITCHOUA

b. 1978 in Tbilisi, Georgia

Lives and works in LA, CA, 1992 - present

Statement

My work stems from personal experiences of heightened states of emotions. Through painting, drawing, collage, and experimental animation I engage spiritually with the world - focusing on the energy and psyche of the individual. In the interplay between abstract and representational, the layering of time, energy, memory and form, lie the contradictions and duality of life’s daily process.

My work draws on universal themes of mutabilities, love and death, innocence and experience, cosmos and cohabitation of humans with their environment. Subjects which turn up again and again in my work are depictions of flora and fauna, which could be seen as guides to my own subconscious (and the viewers’) to help navigate these depths.

My central interest currently lies in transformation and seeking to understand the tendencies of change, the alchemy of one thing turning into another, allowing materials to produce images intuitively and my temperament to speak the impressions of inner experience.
